Louisville Sluggers: Premier Academy Takes on the Nation’s Best & Succeeds at JVA World Challenge & 18U National Championships

Louisville, Kentucky, is known for champions, and two weekends ago (April 10–12), Premier Academy added to that legacy with marquee successes at JVA World Challenge & 18U National Championships. Our teams traveled to the JVA World Challenge and the 18U National Championships, taking over the Kentucky Expo Center for a weekend of high-stakes, national-level volleyball.
When you compete in Louisville, you’re seeing the best of the best from every corner of the country. To walk away with four teams in the Top 10 (and three of those in the Top 5!) is a massive statement.
Here is the breakdown of our "Gold Bracket" weekend:
🏐 18-Onitsuka: Elite Performance on the National Stage
Led by our Director, Jodi Schramm, 18-Onitsuka took on a massive 55-team field at the 18U National Championships. They finished 9th overall, posting an incredible 5–2 record. Watching this group execute a high-level offense against national powerhouses was a highlight of the weekend. They proved once again that Premier athletes don't just belong on the national stage—they lead it.
🖐️ 16-Kinsei & 15-Trabuco: The Top-5 Double
Coach Brett Garner had a busy (and successful!) weekend, guiding two different age groups to 5th place finishes.
16-Kinsei was a force of nature, going 6–1 in matches and dropping only three sets all weekend. Their aggressive attacking and "ball-never-hits-the-floor" mentality earned them a well-deserved spot on Championship Sunday.
15-Trabuco mirrored that success, battling through a disciplined 15 Premier division to finish 5th. Their resilience in the Gold Bracket showed exactly what happens when technical training meets competitive heart.
✨ 13-Spree: The Future is Bright
Our younger stars in 13-Spree, led by Jena Riseborough, continued their incredible season momentum. Competing in a 32-team field, they fought their way into the Top 5 with a 4–3 record. Their growth in "out-of-system" play and their composure under the big lights of the Convention Center was a "proud parent" moment for the whole club.
The Secret Sauce: Setter-Led Success
If you followed our matches on social media, you saw one consistent theme: elite setting. Our offensive success this weekend was driven by our setters’ ability to:
Dictate a fast, aggressive tempo that kept blockers guessing.
Distribute the ball with surgical precision to our pin hitters.
Remain "cool under pressure" during tight Gold Bracket sets.
Behind every great kill is a great first contact and a perfect set. Our development system is clearly paying off!
More Wins in Sandusky
While half the club was in Kentucky, our Premier P25 teams were holding it down at the Breakout Bash in Sandusky. These teams gained invaluable experience and showed that the depth of talent at Premier Academy runs deep across every roster.
